Daily Intentions to Create Focus and Balance in Your Day to Day Life

I talk a lot about goal setting as I am firm believer in the benefit of goal setting and the positive and motivational things that goal setting brings to each of us. Goals give us something to focus on for the future and create a plan that helps keep your eye on the prize. However, goal setting can also create a limited mindset, a one track mindset in which we only focus on the tangible thing we are working towards. For most of the time that is what goals are; a hard object or a tangible thing. On top of that often these big goals are something that may take a while, maybe its a long term goal that will take months or even years to reach such as qualifying for a specific race, getting your degree, or mastering an art it can get frustrating when we may not even see the progress we want towards that goal.

That is where Daily Intention comes into play.

Setting an intention for the day gives you focus for the day, something to keep you present within the moment vs. always looking super far in advance. While looking ahead is important you only get to the future by staying present in the moment, setting intention for the day helps create the presence.

What are Intentions?

Here is the beautiful thing about daily intentions and what they actually are….. they can be whatever you need them to be!!! There isn’t a strict guideline on what a daily intention must or needs to be. They are word, or a saying, or a “thing” that helps you to focus on the moment, create possibility for the day, and helps to raise your emotional value for the day!! They have no limitations.

Why Intentions?

From a simple stance intentions help to create a daily roadmap and most importantly I believe they do help create happiness within yourself due to the fact that they tend to come from a place of emotion that helps to guide and ground us in our selves.

Setting intention helps you to get out of your head through providing focus and presence to the day. Through the intention you can get rid of the limitations that you may feel are surrounding your day. Through focusing on positivity and productivity you remove the space of negativity which allows you to see the world in a much brighter light.

Lastly, they help you to open to new limits that you may have not thought you could reach. Often we are stunted by the limitations we put on ourselves and that comes from a lack of awareness of what is going on around. When we chose intention in our life that creates a sense of awareness towards our surroundings and we become more open to knew things.

How to Come Up with Intentions

Here is the thing….. there isn’t a specific way to come up with your intentions and that is the beautiful thing about them. They are whatever it is that you need in order to feel grounded and motivated throughout your day. The key to intentions is that you want to have them create a purpose around productivity and positivity.

Intentions, while always wanting to be from a space of emotion, can be in any form. Below are some examples, you would just put the phrase “I intend to…..”

Relationship and Immediate
- Smile more throughout the day.
- Spread Kindness by helping some who I wouldn’t normally help
- Maintain awareness to my surroundings
- Mainfest happiness
- Be present
- Be focused
- Make someone else smile
- Live life with joy

Work Intentions
- Create supportive and creative work environment
- Listen to those around me
- Gratefully and gracefully perform my job duties

Physical
- To live elegantly
- To be present with myself
- To see myself for who I fully can become
- To stay energetic

If you can wake up each morning and spend 5-10 minutes each day in a quiet space determine the intention you want for the day you will find that you start the day with more positivity and strength. I challenge you to spend a few minutes each day to come up with your own intentions, write them down and refer back to them throughout the day!! Be mindful in your intentions and you will find that you are mindful within yourself!!
