3 Step Reset Ritual to Bring You Back to Present when Thrown Off Your Game

Do you ever find yourself totally overwhelmed? Make a mistake and it throws you off your game? Someone says or does something that frustrates you and causes you to lose focus? Yes… I know I have.

One of the biggest challenges of when things don’t go the way we want them is that it throws us off our game. It creates a lack of focus and that lack of focus can continue to rattle you; causing you to lose the ability to stay present in the moment.

The ability to be in a present state of mind is an incredible valuable tool to an athlete and in reality anything you are doing seriously from business to life. Being present provides focus, clarity, concentration, awareness to ones body and a connection to yourself and the moment you are in. Losing that ability can be completely derailing to your end game, but it doesn’t have to be.

There are many tools you can use to bring yourself back to focus but when you combine a few pieces of it together it becomes even more powerful.

Some people call this the mistake ritual but I feel like it is more appropriately deemed a reset ritual because it can be used whenever you find yourself feeling a little out of wack, unfocused, stuck, frustrated, or just off your game. The Reset Ritual uses a power word or phrase, a physical movement and your breath to anchor you back to the present moment and keep you in the game.

Listen below to find out how to create and utilize these three powerful items to give you the ability to stay present and focused.

Now you are ready to tackle any situation that is thrown at you, right??

Here is the thing…. it takes practice and it takes awareness of when you get thrown off your game and a willingness to use this. I recommend practicing multiple times a day even when you aren’t feeling off your game so that the routine is something that comes naturally and easily to you in the future. I know for me lately I have been telling myself to 1) Fight for it 2) shaking my shoulders out and 3) taking a deep breath as I get my watch set up before my runs. This little action gets me mentally ready to run, and gives a reminder that if I don’t do it perfectly I have something to turn to.
